A lone bugle honors
the fallen; twenty one
guns give a last salute;
reluctantly, we say
'goodbye' and ponder the
terrible cost of war.
A Veteran who made
it home knows the price all
too well; his body, his
mind, shattered; he wonders
if it was worth it --- the
terrible cost of war.
A family sends their
son, their daughter, off to
the front lines; they don't speak
the unspeakable fear;
they pray they don't pay the
terrible cost of war.
And we, left behind, go
on blithely, not knowing
what sacrifice truly
means; remembering to
forget --- the terrible,
terrible cost of war!
So true, and we don't really know what sacrifice means... yet not all forget... And that's the value of really studying war's terrible history...lest we do forget IT and the VET...and never should
My prayers and gratitude to each and everyone that has served our country.. My prayers to families to have strength and faith to cope with the loss of loved ones that have paid the Ultimate Cost!... and may we NEVER forget.

Some walk around showing they terrible war scars, others will have them for the rest of their lifes, not the combat fears or the road bombs, no the snipers aiming for your head or for the lose of one of your limbs, the bigger scars of all is when a soldier buddy dieas in your arms, that's the stuff that nightmares are made of.
My hand goes to my heart and my tears kiss my cheek as I read this especailly after my recent visit to the Canadian War Museum and my own posting of this morning. You honour so many with your moving words here Karla...well done.

The terrible cost of war ... it makes me sad knowing that there are many who look upon this as a political statement rather than in honoring those who give of themselves for our freedom. Let us pray that we will never forget their sacrifice.
