... My twin sis screams, 'What are you doing?!?' ....

Image (c) 2005, Karla Dorman

Poem Artwork

... hear the wind picking up.  A mutter of thunder.  Look
out of the apartment, what do I see?  A madswirl of
gathering forces, pointing into a funnel --- oh,
dang.  So do I do what smart people do, head
for shelter?  Nope --- grab the camera.  My
twin sis screams, "What are you doing?!?"
as I take the last two images of what
may be my undoing.  She yells, "Get.
In.  This.  House.  Right.  NOW!!"
Me:  "Just one more picture!"
She is f u r i o u s; wanting
to wrap crutches around
my neck.  But I get the
pictures I wanted:
see, it's like this
--- you can take
the girl out of
the chaser
but not
the
chaser out of the girl.  Have to face my fear sometime ...

I don't know Karla about this one. I agree with your sister. Better
to take cover and live another day. Life has enough fears in it. In
the eye of the tiger you look like a smokin' hot steak.

Very nice idea, the shape, the picture, the content -
And a very realistic scene that is all about facing one's fear,
looking them straight in the eye... of the storm.
Just one suggestion: how about keeping the present tense
- like something happening right here, right now -
throughout the narration?

She was chased by the wind,
but the wind couldn't catch her.
It was she who caught the wind.

And she wound up its dare--
its cold, demonic glare,
and she tossed it back home again. Yes.
She chucked it back home again.

Creatively told in a design that grabs your readers, Karla...I find it refreshing that you always find new ways to put a spin on a topic you are adamant about and your presentation is embedded into our own minds about how the weather affects each and every one of us...Kenny Loggins Top Gun theme song Danger Zone comes to mind here...be well you and Karen Lynn...
