Pow: right between the eyes. Makes you
uncomfortable? Don't want to think about
it? Too bad: bet he wasn't, either: oh, it
was there, death, ticking in his mind, but he
didn't dwell on it. Bet his last thoughts
were of loved ones and home. He believed
he could make a difference: did, just not
the way he imagined. Freedom isn't free ---
never has been, never will be. It exacts a
terrible price, paid in blood. Every day
should be Veteran's and Memorial Day, not
just when convenient: soldiers don't stop
dying when the final salute has been made.
There is always another to fill his boots.
Would you be willing to lay down your life
for your loved ones and for the freedoms
you have? Or would you rather forget? We
owe him this much, if not more: remember
all who've sacrificed health, body and mind
in service to our Nation. War is hell: but it
would be a hell of a lot worse if we depended
on protesters and those who don't give a
damn. Well, I do: here to remind you, ready
or not. It's the least I can do for what he did.
I don't want to forget. And I won't. But I won't dismiss protester's wishes to bring our troops home as a bad thing. We all want them home when the time is right. Now would be good. But I don't have the big picture, and I'm afraid only Dwight Eisenhower's ghost does, and he's not happy. Patrick

There is nothing more sad than a pair of empty boots. His/her life engrained within the leather, the mud and blood tell the story of their final days and moments. They did it for you and for me, for honor and for Country with courage that exceeded their fear. God Bless each and every Veteran. Thank you for remembering them, what they do and what the gave, in the name of freedom for us all.

There are many like this brave one, without them we would not be free. And now our freedom is being slowly taken from us, not by soldiers, but by insane politicians and an apathetic America. I sense, however, that we are beginning to awaken. I hope to God we are, for if not, we are lost.
