It was just me and the flag:
it stood straight out, almost
at the position of attention,
giving honor to those whose
last breath wove the banner.
No sound, except the military
precision in each snap in
the wind: perhaps heroes
marching by. Sweat ran
down my face, joining tears
already there: humbled
by their presence, I wept.
I UNDERSTAND YOUR TEARS...FOR WE ARE STILL STANDING, KARLA. SO MANY TIMES I REFLECT AND RALIZE THAT I COULD HAVE HAD A LOVED ONE LYING IN ARLINGTON BUT GOD CHOSE TO BRING HER BACK HOME SAFE. There is nothing quite like watching a flag being buffeted by the wind. Yes, it will bring a tear. And if it doesn't you're no damn good.
Powerful write, Karla, and that picture says volumes! God bless America again, and God bless those who serve(d), such as yourself! And God bless the families who lost loved ones in battle or those whose military members now march on Heaven's battlefield ... they will never be forgotten by THIS grateful American Patriot ....
