Our first priority is to love ourselves and be happy...keep that in mind on this 8th day of St. Valentines...

I have struggled half my life to find happiness by living to please everyone My kindness and compassion drained and none left for me Afraid to disappoint, afraid to let down the same people whose sole purpose was to find out what they could get out of me I let some walk over me, allowed some control me I have been broken, healed, and then broken again by people I loved, people I trusted until I realized that happiness does not depend on anyone else but me So I lifted up my empty, tired hands expanded my lungs, opened my spaces I lifted up my wounded heart extracted by man, broken to pieces I lifted up my confused and conformed mind lost in the wilderness, lost and nearly never to be found and cried out to God "Save me, give me a new heart, use me!" "Love yourself Bernice," He said "Love yourself for I AM in you, your light may have flickered a million times but it will never die." Copyright © 2013 by Bernice Angoh

I appreciate the line "I have been broken, healed, and then broken again" for it does happen many times in one's life. Turning to the Divine Healer gives strength for the journey and hope when we are trampled on.
Knowing God loves ME gives dignity, honor and hope, enabling us to give Him the broken pieces and go on with Him.

Before we can be loved by anyone else, we have to love ourselves first. I see many poets with broken hearts who didn't learn that lesson.

Good advice from the Higher Power, Bernice, and also good that you yielded to that sound advice. It took me many lost decades before I knew the supreme feeling of loving myself. The day I felt that revolution, I was suddenly able to forgive myself for the wrongs I had done over the years to people who I hurt along the way. On that second day of October day, 2010, I became a free and happy man. Life has not been the same and that, my friend, is good. Love the photo.
