Why not to try to cook and work on the computer at the same time.

Poem Artwork

Was thinking what to have for dinner that night,
Barbecue ribs and potato salad sounded just right.
My potato salad was the best made today, or so my family
And others say.

First things first, take out five potatoes, put them in a pot
of water to boil. I knew how long that would take. So I left
the kitchen to go the den, now that was a big mistake.

I turned on my computer, it took forever to come on, but
when it finally came up, I did a few things. I read my email,
Went to Authors Den, and uploaded some pictures I wanted
to send.   Did a little shopping on line, oh yeah, my potatoes,
I forgot the time.

When I got to the stove I opened the lid on the pot; I let out a
horrible scream!  The skins had popped open, and oh, what a mess.
It looked like potato soup that was just a bad dream.

I wasn’t going to let this bug me, I drained the water and saved
what I could. But the way things were going, with potatoes
falling apart, it certainly didn’t look good.

Since I was such a “genius”, I knew just what to do, I’d cheat
and bake some potatoes in a microwave, add it to what I had
saved, and everything would be okay.

Now our microwave is hotter than most, I left them in too long
and when I looked at my baked potatoes, they had shriveled up and died.   I realize now that trying to cook and work on the computer is just plain wrong.
But there is a bright light at the end of tunnel, I got my potato salad from Fry’s.

I can certainly relate since I always go by the philosophy that if it cannot be ready to eat in five minutes, it's not going to happen. Lol! Thanks for sharing the humor, Mary. Love and best wishes,

Regis

Fabulous! For me this is a good lesson because I am cooking for myself and quite often do some computer work simulataneously. Sometimes I call my computer " A demon in the house" because it carries me away to unknown retreats as if possessed by evil spirits. With computer I can hardly live with myself in peace, without it I can not live at all. Thanks for this beautiful offering

I guess that potato salad homemade from you will have to be made another day when you are not interested in getting on the computer. I know you can cook well and will do it and it will turn out great. If you don't succeed try try again. It wasn't your fault you got sidetracked. It is so easy to do.

Hello Mary,

I've been there! Cooking and working on the computer just don't match - it's my waterloo (cooking) but I'm good at taste tests.
Very nice and true!

LOL, Mary! I'm not much of a cook, either: would MUCH rather eat out. But who can afford to? Who can afford groceries? Why I live on mac and cheese, spaghetti, cabbage and noodles ... easiest to prepare. Well done. My mother was a wonderful cook: too bad I didn't inherit her talent!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Way to go! You could have made potato soup, dumplings, patties but you have described all the reasons why I just do not cook! When it is my turn to cook I pick up the telephone instead and hedge my bets. Cute, enlightening write.

Be always safe,
Karen
