I Don’t Tiptoe Any More
I don’t tiptoe any more
It invokes balance issues and hurts my toes
After 15 falls I’m a whiz kid at falling
Learned it from the ground up.
Besides I can’t see my toes
Without my glasses
Which I can rarely find.
Speaking of lost and found...
From my nose to the ground
Is an understated distance
After factoring in a leap a twirl
and an ungodly swirl that ends
With my nose smashed to smithereens
Whoever or whatever that is.
Concrete hurts.
No need to get uptight
Just get me upright
Then send me on my way.
If this is an emergency call 911...
But first, a little consciousness helps
And a phone
Stop the bleeding is optional
And who besides me goes out
Wandering at 3 in the morning?
The coolness of the air
The splendor of the grass
Then wham!
I’m on my face or my ass
They’re nearly indistinguishable now.
There should be a law against
Forcing a signature from someone
Who is prone in a MASH-style medic wagon
Whilst gazing at a lovely set of ankles
Sock less
Just to entertain a dying libido
Well the libido is OK
It’s the predicament.
And so I will end this abbreviated tome
And get my bones back home
Before I am accused of being
A night stalker
Which I am not
But could be once again
After the healing takes hold.
Stay tuned.
PS
My rehab doctor sternly admonished: "You need to get off your feet for your own safety!" I had fallen many times, broke my glasses many times and had over 100 stitches in my forehead from the cuts I got with almost every fall, even from plastic lens.
The solution first, was a power scooter that got me around nicely without falling. The second was a power wheelchair because my arms were not strong enough to push me in a good old-fashioned wheelchair that many people use adroitly these days.
I think the number one cause of death, and broken hips, are false for those over 70. Regardless of what you do; it's better to be safe than sorry, and you can stalk on much further on one battery charge with people along the way telling you "slow down!" as you whisk your way to your next conquest under the moon.

(but I hope there was no real damage)
Your individual humour is such an asset Ed,
Whether in your own work, or your witty and amusing
comments when reviewing others…
I love men with a good sense of humour ( sorry for the
Brit spelling!)

Not able to resist your poem (I'd just walked in from Whole Foods w/frozen veggies for a neighbor), I let suckers melt as I read (twice!) your poem. I wasn't disappointed; I never am!
Don't know if you checked out my latest "The Body Parts" wherein I yak about all those lovely parts that more and more are "talking" to me and giving me a bigger thrill as I add one hour of PT daily for the shoulder, the knee and I'm guessing, the ankle is next! All my doing, My Pet; all my doing, as a reward for being Tomboy (still am) and using my body all these years. I'll stop there; I know what you're thinking... that, too!
I love you!
