The Gloaming

Twilight is the best
of day
Haunting
uncertain
mysterious
perfect for a spirit
like mine
where
nothing is known
and the owl
master of the night
feels at home
in the flux
of shadows that abound
outside the window
mingling with the ghostly reflections
in my soul
It is the best of time passing
when
between light and darkness
darkness and light
morning or night
nothing matters
in the twilight
of my existence
but the aching

Regis,

Expertly worded. This poem has a lonely, sad feel. You have picked the perfect time of day to coincide with these sort of feelings. Your imagery is a perfect reflection of this mood. Love and hugs:)

I love the picture. As you saw in my poem, I have a daytime owl. They are great message bearers.
The darknes is nothing to fear when you know the daylight is forthcoming. "Of course, you know that." It is awesome how you bear your soul with your work. A lot of men are too macho. Thank God there are sensitive men like you who are willing to share their thoughts.
You are a great poet and I appreciate the opportunity to read your writings.

Sad, hopeful, deep thoughts and feelings of a soul caught in uncertainties of life. Vulnerable, darkened. Happiness of life being threatened & yanked at. Turning into fear & pain, yet light shines still keeping total darkness out. Able to still see and feel there is hope and beauty outside a soul dangling in the twilight times of life.
Very Deep, Methodical poem

... But twilight is also that unique dimension of time and nature that gives birth to dawn, and then aching darkness fades away, first in still unbelieving shades of violet, then in very soft and soothing hues of sun. May your twilight birth that dawn very soon, Regis. Your poetry is beautiful, and you are a very gentle spirit.

There is nothing "between" about this write, Regis; nothing shadowy or unclear. It shines with a clarity of expression that is admirable, given the ambivalence it conjures. The last seven lines are so striking that I think they could stand alone. Twilight is about a dull ache, I reckon... either acknowledging it exists or trying to cover it up. Excellent as always. TY Kate xx. PS the new pic on your biog caught me by surprise, but it is captivating. LOL

I hear great pain, heartache, that mingles in the waning night before the light attempts to chase it away. The crow, a sign of passing, changes ... not necessarily of anyone's chosing. The words and picture are wed to one another but not necessarily a happy couple. Beauty in heartache doesn't sound right but they can exist side-by-side; it's more like looking forward but unable to see very far down the road. Bravo!
