I had a few more free moments and wanted to make something very clear before I inadvertently tanked my Mom's book before it even hits your Kindle. My Mother is by no means a Nazi. Never was. Never has been. No one in her family ever joined the party. Nevertheless, the Nazi influences exerted over her in school, on the radio, and everywhere else shaped her into who she is today. This intentional brainwashing of the young was so complete that it is a permanent part of my Mother's thinking, which is why I find her memoirs so fascinating.
Sometimes it's nothing short of shocking to discover just how much her years in the Third Reich impacted her. What's truly amazing is that she's not even aware of it; it's so ingrained that it's part of her subconscious. Mom is undoubtedly a very intelligent lady. She professes to have no prejudices whatsoever, zero, nada. Nevertheless, I can't tell you how many times I've heard her say this man or that man was a Jew simply because this person had a large nose.
Oh yeah, there's also the day I came home from a college history class and told Mom that Hitler was a hypochondriac and a drug addict. I was instantly slapped in the face before I could say anything else.
