Based on research alone, we all know it's critical to get your book edited before publication. Noting like a few good speling and gramatical erors to quickly kill you're repatation and your blook. : )
At this point I'm no good to Mom. I've been typing up her memoirs from her scrap sheets of paper so long now that I'm starting to miss things. Just the other day, I realized I used the wrong word: "week" for "weak" even though I know the difference between the two!
Starting with a basic Google search, we've looked at some big editing companies in New York, and a few small ones located across the country. Then we focused on the local area. I thought local editors would be a little more difficult to find, but to my surprise there are quite a few in the area. Here are some other good places we found in our research:

That said, Mom is more comfortable with leveraging the expertise of local editors we can look in the eye. She will be interviewing her first editor on February 15th at a nearby Barnes & Noble Starbucks.
