Like I’ve said before, I’m Mom’s connection to 21st century technology. I have been thinking about how to do a video preview for her “Lamb of Legacy” book for awhile now. Like many of you, I’m working with a shoe string budget so I’m determined to do as much as I can on my own.
Creating a video preview by yourself isn’t as easy as it may sound, especially if you’re not up to speed with the tools of the trade. While I’m a PowerPoint ranger, it’s not what I needed to create what I had in mind. I was shopping around for software, lamenting the fact that I had so much to learn, when a bit of good fortune came my way. Her name was Janelle Santillanes.
I’m an online professor with American Military University. Janelle was one of my bright students whose personality transcended the usual anonymity typical of a virtual classroom. We struck up a friendship after I learned she was a freelance writer who was writing a children’s book with her little niece.
Her book, CARMEN & LUKE (The Chihuahua & The Lion – A Love Story), by Janelle Santillanes, Brianna A. Santillanes, was self-published through Lulu and just hit the street last month. I have a copy she promises to sign. : )
Even though she was no longer my student, we still kept in touch. She started sending me YouTube links to some video projects she was producing just for the fun of it. They were pretty awesome. They led to me asking her if she would be interested in producing a video preview for a book. She said yes!
I gave her the link to Mom’s book website, which had the verbiage she needed, and emailed some pictures. By the next day, here’s what she produced:
Janelle doesn’t do this as a profession. She did this for me out of the kindness of her heart. I think she's talented enough to earn a living at it though!
