By C'Rod How would you celebrate your Mom's 80th birthday?
Turning 80 is significant. We have been blessed to have Mom around this long. She's been through and seen so much in her lifetime.
She turns 80 tomorrow, but we threw her a party today. Not all her children were there, but she was surrounded by one of her sons, his family, Dad, grand dogs and me. To make it a special day, here are two things you might want to do for your own Mom or Dad:
1. Memories Book. Mom has four children. Each of us contributed 20 special memories we have of her (equates to her age, 80). Her grand children also contributed, as did her grand dogs. We then made a book. Each of her children, grandchildren and grand dogs had a section with old photos and their special memories. I threw everything into a PowerPoint presentation and had Kinko’s (FedEx) print it as an 8x10 book. Only cost $18 and it was a huge hit!
2. Picture Slide Show Video. I took photos of her that had been shot throughout the years and created trip down memory lane for her. Add some nice music and transport your Mom back through time. This was also a big hit. Takes quite a few photos to fill a 4 min song, but all the effort was worth it just seeing her smile and laugh at one photo or another. This was also a big hit!
I also bought a corsage which was a disaster because I couldn't pin it on and pricked my fingers several times before throwing in the towel. If you go this route, recommend you get one that goes on her wrist!
Went to a professional cake maker to get a sugar-free birthday cake due to her diabetes. This also turned into a problem. When I picked up the cake yesterday, the lady handed me a bleeping blank cake!! Nothing like a naked cake to get your blood boiling! Thank goodness it tasted better than it looked!
That's all for today. Mom's worn me out!
