There was supposed to be a blog here today for some wonderful people we met after a wonderful Indianapolis experience last weekend. However I got a phone call from my daughter while in Indy "dining on fried green beans" and learned a very dear friend one year my senior, Johnetta, succumbed to complications from having battled breast cancer for a number of years. Her service was today...and it was not possible for me to write as most of my day was spent reflecting, giving her daughters a hug, and just appreciating friends and family who are still with us.
My daughter said she saw Johnetta 2 weeks prior to her death, and she asked about me. Time after time I had been thinking about her, and she told my daughter the same. One thing about Johnetta that reminds me of myself, we may have been down at certain points in our lives but we both have a fighting spirit! You might say we were stellar students at the Zena Warrior Princess school of "don't start none, won't be none." And we loved to converse about all KINDS of things while she's give me beauty tips, work on my nails and we'd both talk about how our kids and significant others would test our very last fraction of a nerve.
My only question upon hearing of her passing to my daughter was "how did she seem, was she okay?" I'm very glad to report that all who saw her alive said the last 6 weeks of her life, she seemed to be more vibrant than any other time her girls could recall. So to my friend, my partner in motherhood and grandmotherhood and business ownership, and to a woman who loved to read, loved to laugh, and who loved to see people happy after going thru such a difficult life, I'm taking this moment of "blog silence" and return with "Fry'd-N-Indy" on 10/23. Apologize for putting you on hold, but one only has so many friends that they can say are close as sisters. Johnetta was truly MY sister, and she cared SO much about people.
Miss you Sistah Glamour Girl! May peace forever enfold your spirit.
God is smiling with you...your pain and worries are now stillness. And I really REALLY miss you!

Johnetta (Bilbrey) Platt, 54
MUNCIE - Johnetta (Bilbrey) Platt, 54, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2007 at Ball Memorial Hospital.
She was born November 28, 1952 in Campton, Kentucky the daughter of J. T. Bilbrey and Nell (Taulbee) Jolley. Johnetta was a graduate of Muncie Southside High School. She then went on to follow her life long dream and completed her cosmetology courses at Amber’s Beauty School.
She owned and operated Sparkle’s Beauty Salon for many years.
Johnetta loved being with her family and friends especially her grandchildren she also enjoyed traveling, music and reading.
She was a member of Muncie’s First Church of the Nazarene where she had great fellowship with her friends and family.
Mrs. Platt is survived by her three daughters, Toya Hicks, Muncie, Lori (Hicks) Malston, (husband-Donnie), and Toni Platt, Muncie; three granddaughters, Leslie Frye, Dade City, FL, Savanah Malston, Alexandria, and Haylee Malston, Alexandria; one grandson, Johnson Frye Jr., Dade City, FL; step-father, Troy Jolley, Monroe, TN; cousin, Judy Reed, (husband-Lendol), Muncie; best friends, Connie Hartley and Linda Hodson, both of Muncie; special friend, Tom Masing, Yorktown; and several other family members.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her parents; ex-husband, Donald Hicks; and a grandson, Christopher Allen Frye.
Services will be 6:00 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2007 at First Church of the Nazarene 3101 N. Benton Rd., with Pastor Mark Dill officiating.
Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until service time at the church, Monday.
The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Cancer Services of Delaware County – The Little Red Door, 401 W. Jackson St. Muncie, IN. 47305.
