Election 2008--Having My Say

Sometimes I feel as if the book "Tale of Two Cities" will be revised to include the 2008 United States Presidential Election.
Election 2008. So many people have the right to make their words heard through their blood-bought right to vote. Sometimes we may notice the disturbing ratios between decided and undecided voters and wonder if the people’s majority is truly representing all the people? Or, are we represented by those who have the biggest bank accounts and a deficit of compassion?
America is a land founded upon the right to free, hopefully educated thinking. Yet so many choose to remain silent, afraid to speak up when something needs to be said. What’s worse is our children are not being taught how to read and research the truly information that explains how their world works in which they live unless it has a game program. Maybe it sounds cruel, but so be it. Our nation is creating home grown illiterates who have very little hope for the future because of adults so busy making a living that as parents and guardians they left the mentoring up to the schools and juvenile detention centers.
If that sounds harsh, look around. If prisons were publicly traded companies, billionaires would be in every community because the crime is so rampant. Babies and mothers are shot in the face without mercy. Children being subjected to psychological and physical abuse and told it is synonymous with love. The laws we have today are doing very little really impact crime which is, most of the time, based on need, greed or both.
Like any other aptitude, criminal minds are developed. Most of them are created because those who took care of them when they were children had no love for themselves to the point of abuse. So how can someone who has never been taught to overcome various seen and unseen abuses learn to properly love a child? Having a baby or marrying for reasons of loneliness is no substitute for the love one never received in life.
This will never be a perfect world. God promised both a heaven and a hell, but no one has predestined reservations. Everything is choice. Everything is decision. If we were not responsible, then we would choose to live as if everything in our lives happens by sheer chance or luck as many of us would like to believe. But even in not making a decision, we all have made a decision. There are benefits and consequences with not making a decision. Those results can be costly how and where we spend the rest of our lives regarding time, resources, and options.
The world around us is not perfect. People are not perfect, nor are they ever going to be perfect. Life is not, nor will it ever be fair. That's just a fact. And children learn when they watch what we do or do not do.
However facts of the matter never have to determine the future of one's determination to improve the self. As we improve ourselves, our community improves. Matters not who is or who is not in the mayor's office or in the White House. Certainly politics plays a part in how our world around us exists. But the most important part comes in knowing that we have a right to speak up, to apologize when we've said or done something we truly knew was wrong ahead of time, or discovered was wrong and hurt someone's feelings along the way.
None of us are immune to error. None of us are immune to the changes of this world. What we are able to control is how we allow those changes around us to affect our thinking.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we as a world were not labeled by the zip code where we reside, the place we choose to worship, or the education we did or did not receive?
Freedom allows us full reign to pursue our thoughts based on rational thinking and speech, as opposed to emotional knee-jerking followed by first responder opinion.
So as a global community, none of us should be afraid due to cultural difference to confront our own personal inadequacies. By doing so defrauds us of the greatest of all dreams now, and the dreams of our generations to come.
