The Blob 2/3/2009 1:12:32 PM
I wash dishes by hand and don't use gloves to protect my skin. wow what an admission! I'm sure that this revelation won't make headline news but it's relevant to this important blog. ~o~
After washing the dishes and getting my hands into warm, soapy water (strangely an activity I rather enjoy or rather have convinced myself I enjoy) I dry them off (my hands that is), open up the tub of hand cream that I keep above the kitchen sink and generously cream my hands in order to keep them soft. Every now and again I give them a coffee grounds scrub and then apply the cream. As a testament to my efforts, my hands are soft but I don't think I'll grow long nails any time soon. Anyway, I digress. I wanted to provide a bit of background to 'the blob' mystery.
This morning while I was washing dishes I allowed my mind to wander as it usually does during this mindless activity. I was looking out of the window at the distant mountains and imagining that I could see snow on their peaks. I imagined I was skiing (something I haven't done in many many years) and swooshing stylishly down a treacherously expert slope with the greatest of ease... much to the amazement of my mate, Ed, who has recently gone skiing (for real) and relished telling me about how he'd done so like a pro...of course...I'd expect nothing less...he is competitive and does everything well.
So, in this daydream, there was Ed making ooohing and aaahing noises with his eyebrows raised high in surprise. Why would he be surprised that I could swoosh so adroitly? I guess it's because he's never seen me ski and hasn't yet managed to drag me up a slope in order to do so. Soon baby soon...
I might mention I looked absolutely fabulous in my silver and blue ski outfit (Hey this was a dream and I can pick and choose what I wear in dreams and how I look can't I?) I felt like I was in a Bond movie because although I started off skiing to prove to Eddy that I could, I soon realised that someone sinister was in hot pursuit. I could tell that he was not up to any good because he had a gun in one hand and a knife in the other. I don't know what happened to his ski poles but he didn't seem to be having any problem with balance and was quickly catching up with me. I could feel the wind whipping past my face and my agitation grew with every passing second.. and then I heard a voice calling.
"Chants, what are you doing?" It was Ed calling for me from the studio. I snapped out of my daydream. Thank heavens because I was about to be run over by a gun toting, knife wielding ex ski instructor turned amateur skier killer and who knows what he would have done with me.
I quickly dried off my hands and delved in the hand cream pot for a particularly healthy dollop of cream but somehow in between the delving for dollop and the action of placing that blob on my other hand so that I could duly rub it in, the blob vanished. I was mystified. I searched high and low for it but it was nowhere to be found. Eventually, sighing with exasperation and chiding myself for daydreaming when I have work to do, I scooped another dollop of cream out of the tub, watching carefully so that it didn't do the same disappearing trick, applied it quickly to my hands. Creamed up and satisfied I went through to the studio and Eddy asked me if I'd like to go to the bank with him. Well, I'd love to go to the bank if it were to withdraw large sums of money so that I could buy a silver and blue ski suit and maybe book a skiing trip (I'd skip the ski instructor of course) but since that is not the case, I begged off and he went off with Rome instead, not 'Rome' the country, 'Rome' a colleague. That really is his name.
The mystery of the missing blob has subsequently been solved. As I sat down at my computer, I raked my hand through my hair and found it. A quick inspection in the mirror confirmed my suspicions. The blob had somehow managed to find its way onto the top of my head and my recently washed hair now needs another wash *sigh*
