Change can be beautiful...
I spent four days in Lee, Maine with my “Little Friend” Deedre and her family...hoping for a little R&R. I definitely got it and it was wonderful.
The village of Lee could be missed if you looked down to change the radio station. No traffic lights, no crosswalks, one restaurant and a post office. The area is surrounded by mountains, with fall colors that are startling in their beauty, as though each leaf was finger painted by God Himself.
It’s been over a year since I’ve been away. Mom moved here from Indiana in 2011, and most of my traveling prior to that time had been to see her.
De’s been after me for two years to come up and see her in her new habitat. I’m so glad I did.
She was always big on creature comforts and seemed happy as a city girl. When her husband Chris suggested the move to Maine (for a medical job) I thought they were both crackers.
But having met her teacher friends who are as nice as they come, the townsfolk who clearly like them both and how much De’s little family is thriving…it did my heart good to see that change can be a beautiful thing. For once I'm glad I was wrong.
As we said goodbye and hugged at the Bangor airport (the smallest commercial airport I've ever seen) I realized how much her friendship has always meant to me. It’s hard to find a bosom friend, a truly kindred spirit. They’re rare.
Thank heavens for Skype!
