Gratitude
Last night I was cleaning in the downstairs bathroom. When I bent over, the broom handle knocked a large framed print off of the wall and down on my little toe. It hurt and there was a lot of blood.
Afraid I’d make a mess on the carpeted stairs to our bedroom I prayed that God would stem the flow long enough for me to reach the first aid kit. He did. As soon as I sat down with some Kleenex and Neosporin it began to flow again. This time I was ready for it. I’ve learned over the years that no problem is too big or small for our Father.
While I was applying pressure to my wound, I began thinking of other things that I used to take for granted.
Our first home was a “starter home.” The house was cute but it sat in a neighborhood where there were many rentals, and no pride of ownership. Before long we had the cutest home on the block. But driving down the block was embarrassing, and the source for 27 years of griping about being surrounded by dumpy rental houses. I couldn’t understand why we were still there, financially stuck in a place where we had little chance of escape.
Why should God give us anything better? All we did was complain about the gift He’d already given us and taking that gift for granted. But we didn’t think about that then.
My hubby Ralph and I split up briefly in 2008. We’d taken each other for granted too.
We sold the house, divided our assets and set out on separate paths. He stayed in Florida. I moved to Indiana to be with my mother.
After the second snowfall which brought a horrific ice storm with it, I wanted to return to Florida so bad that I could taste it. I was unbearably homesick, missing family and friends. And I missed our little house. I even missed the whooshing sound that palm fronds make as they rub against each other in the warm, soft breeze.
I prayed for a chance to make it right.
God lovingly put the pieces of the puzzle back together and at the speed of light. I can always tell when God’s moving, because He does stuff mind bogglingly quick and in ways I’d never considered doing.
Hubby and I reconciled, I was offered my old job back, we bought a lovely condo and we’re both happier than we’ve been in a long time. We’re back where we belong; with each other. Our condo is smaller than the house, but it’s in a better neighborhood and there isn’t anywhere else I’d rather live.
Gratitude. I can’t imagine where Ralph and I would be today without God’s intervention.
I want to thank everyone for reading my blog. I’ve been trying to enlighten, encourage, provide giggles and give praise to God for all He does. The Father can bless us and help us bless others in the coolest ways.
Yesterday you blessed me immeasurably. I had over 100 hits, double my usual average of 50. I’m honored that so many want to tune into my ramblings.
