How to finish off those lingering leftovers 11/25/2006 8:03:21 AM
What to do with the Thanksgiving leftovers stored in our refrigerators. Today is Saturday, Thanksgiving was Thursday..Friday we made sandwichs topped with dressing or whatever, today, who knows what concoction we will make up trying our best to minimize our holiday dinner leftovers...
How about this recipe I call. Grandma Baba's Lovely Layered Leftovers Casserole..
Everything for this casserole probably will found nicely stored in the compounds of your very own refrigerator..
Let's see, you will need: turkey, gravy, corn, mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes, or both, whichever you have, stuffing, green bean casserole, sse french fried onions, and maybe any other leftovers you feel would taste good and be compatible..
Grease a casserole dish that will fit the amount of leftovers you have (normally a 13x9x2) but you will have
to use your judgement on the size of the dish to hold
the casserole. (Yikes!!just kidding)..
Put the stuffing in the casserole dish first as a bottom
layer. Then place a layer of turkey. Put the mashed
potatoes, and/or sweet potatoes, along with the corn or
other ingredients you are using. Pour gravy all over
everything (turkey or chicken gravy would be best).
Spoon the green bean casserole over the gravy, potatoes,
vegetables and then top with french fried onions.
Heat in a 350 degree oven, not a microwave oven, for
20-30 minutes. When done, bring it out and let it cool
down a little. Then dig in and enjoy.
All the while you are eating, keep reminding yourself
that next year you will make sure that you minimize the
portions in your Thanksgiving Dinner, 2007..
Oh, and by the way, your apple pie, pumpkin pie, cherry
pie or whatever kind of pies you make are not included
in the leftovers category. If you are like me, I can
eat pie of any kind, any time..
