Henrik Lundquist is 26yrs old, a gold medal winner and seasoned 3 yr goalie for the New York Rangers..and nominated for the coveted Vezina Trophy for his third consecutive year..and a huge reason why the NYRangers are still in the Playoffs. Was thrilled with the 5-3 win over Devils on Friday..stopped celebrating in time to see the Vezina Trophy nominations have included Lundquist- for the third consecutive year..plus he is only the SECOND Goalie in the NHL to begin his career with 30+ starts- 3yrs in a row..
Yes the Rangers special teams- like Shananhan & Dubinsky that work on Penalty Kills..and they are effective - they also have the formerOttawa coach- that drills them -
but the other penalty killer is the goalie LUNDQUIST..and he is only 26yrs old..LORD of the ICE!
Henrik is a rising star.. winning 37 games of 72 games played & posting a 2.23 goals-against average with a League-high 10 shutouts.TEN Shutouts regular season and 2 against arch rivals - the Devils. Lundquist allowed only 24 goals in his final 14 reg season games.. Go Lundquist!! .
Yes I read a lot of stats..but its impressive, because the blending of the older Veterans like Jagr and Shanahan.- Straka . mentoring and influencing the younger players like
Lundquist- Callahan- Dubinsky - who the Rangers voted Rookie of the Year - simply adds up to their success thus far on the ice..and an interesting 2nd Round matchup its going to be.
I think the next round will see NYRangers vs. Philadelphia and Montreal vs. Pittsburgh. Id like to see the Drury team v. Briere & company..because these 2 exSabre captains have added polish to both new teams.
And what about that 7 game series between Boston & MTL? Im not a Boston anything fan (NYY- Giants) but Bruins played their best and have a lot to be proud of- being #8 and taking the #1 team 7 games.. they even outlasted the Devils..so kudos to Boston.
