Armed police in all schools will not work
The National Rifle Association (NRA) and some in our United States Congress and Senate are proposing that two armed police be stationed in every school in America to ward off an intrusion by a crazed person with a gun.
Good business for the gun manufacturers and the NRA,but an impractical, costly and foolhardy suggestion.
Placing armed persons in ALL American schools would be a waist of taxpayer money.
Let's review the profile of shooters like the ones at Newtown and Aurora. Those two crazed. but skilled shooters continually played combat video games where surprise assaults were carried out by body-armored shooters. So...they first studied the place of their crime to be, then suited up in protective wear, grabbed some automatic rifles and emulated those video game surprise assaults.
It was the element of surprise that the shooter used so well at Newtown...The shooter blasted through a door window and was in the building firing away within seconds. This element of surprise would most likely be responsible for taking out armed police in any school.
Example: When police wearing body armor invade a drug dealers house that's heavily armed...their element of surprise takes the bad guys down very quickly. Also,when Bin Laden was captured and killed in his heavily armed safe-house the Seals were succesful because of their element of surprise.
The profile of these recent shooters,included using their element of surprise to gain successful entree. Would armed police in a school be overcome by the same surprise tactic? I think so. Would their late response and subsequent cross-fire by them kill more students? Perhaps.
Armed guards placed in schools is an inefective alternative to the gun problem...Money should be spent on screening gun owners and legeslating against assault weapons. The second amendment asks for these controls.
