A meaningful thank you to all those who have served
In September, 1965, I left the security of the country I love so much for a war-torn land in Southeast Asia--a place called Vietnam. It goes without saying that I was frightened because of the uncertainty that lay ahead. But God looked down and instilled the feeling within me that everything was going to be all right. During my time there, I paused at the end of each day to thank Him for allowing me to live another day. That was the least I could do for the One who watched over me each day I was there. Once my tour of duty was completed, I rotated back to my beloved USA, married the love of my life, and together we had two wonderful sons and have lived a life filled with countless blessings. If one were to examine me closely, they could detect a few scars from having served in that war. Perhaps they aren't visible to the human eye, but they are there nonetheless. On the other hand, some were not as fortunate as I. No, they paid the ultimate price simply because they were willing to face the enemy and die when their country called them to serve. So, here I sit, trying in my own feeble way to thank those who served before me, those who served with me, and those who have served after me to maintain that continuum of freedom we all hold so dear in our hearts. May God forever bless the United States of America, and may He give a special blessing to those who are away from their families this Memorial Day weekend. And once their tour of duty is completed, may He bring them safely home.
