Loving Mondays 10/12/2020 8:42:33 AM
Discovering the wonderful possibilities of a fresh, new start at the beginning of every week - as if creating a clean slate - forgetting all the negatives & "bad press" this day gets! Monday, for obvious reasons (mostly after a break from the weekend) has, and still does carry a dread for most people because it connotes "getting down to business again," whether work or school. This is a heavy load to carry for a lifetime and most folks suffer from "Mondayitis." I hope my own views on Mondays can help a bit.
Just like any other kid, I enjoyed my weekends after five days of school and homework even if Saturdays were filled with chores and Sundays special with church and family. The weekends afforded a break from routine. Until Sunday evening came around... one could feel the change in energy around one; for the dreaded Monday was looming just around the corner... People actually exhibited depression. Not me!
I have always enjoyed the freshness of a Monday morning and a new start. The fact that I loved school made a huge difference, I'm sure. I had done my homework and written and looked forward to a decent grade - or even hope for good results on a Monday test from a not-so-thoughtful teacher. But I managed to get by and I think that attitude toward Mondays has always made a difference in my life. I really do.
In my professional life, I did the same thing - preparing over the weekend (projects, chores, wardrobe, etc.) for Monday mornings, always with an attitude of anticipation as opposed to dread. At least that was my intention - and it paid off. I choose to think that positive attitude toward Mondays made all the difference in my success: an appreciation - as opposed to dread - toward Mondays.
Now retired, I still look forward to Mondays because I get a chance to set my goals and intentions for as meaningful and productive a week as I wish it to be. I like the freshness; the clean slate; the INTENTION.
And, more than anything, the attitude of gratitude for the feeling of "starting all over." Like a kid, I guess I've made it a game and it seems to work well for me.
I love Mondays just as most people love Fridays or Sundays! It's a blessing to have each one come around; it's a GIFT!
Enjoy this Monday, dear reader, if you happen to be reading this!
