Aging with Grace and humor!!! 9/22/2023 9:12:10 AM
Aging is unavoidable but attitude and acceptance - and humor towards it makes it more palatable! Each morning when I first wake up for my first tinkle of the day in reverence to my beloved and collapsed bladder, I flush and look in the mirror to get my first chuckle and scream of the day: "Who is THAT?" Holy Pete, how my gorgeous face has changed - and keeps changing from day to day! You have to admit, you've gotta laugh and thank your lucky stars that you can still pee, have working peepers with which to see yourself and, above all, a sense of humor!
I think it was Joan Rivers who said that aging was "not for sissies," and she was absolutely right: it's for the courageous and those with a funny bone!
I happen to live in a lovely senior "independent-living" building in Boston that is becoming more and more like an assisted-living community because, more and more, walkers, wheelchairs, canes and oxygen gadgets are taking over. It's a constant reminder of the possibilities of the aging process so the best thing to do is compare which gadget works best in case you're next in line and needing one!
What I try to do every day is get my carcass out for a long walk and hit the gym for a good stretch or two, to keep those muscles happy and my attitude more positive. I'm a firm believer in keepinng on moving and force myself to kick my buns out the door, never regretting it. Just trying; trying, and very, very trying!
May you be gentle with yourself and love that precious face and body of yours, just doing the best you can!!
