This poem I published in the "Pearls on a String: Love Songs" poetry collection.
Easter
Greece, at Easter time...
Few years back,
like in another lifetime;
A small, white village, in the mountains,
The evening of Good Friday....
Dark outside,
Candles in hand, we went to the church,
a small building,
nestled among white rocks.
The entire village outside, waiting....
The funeral of our Lord
The deacons carried the epitaph outside,
gilded wood overlaid with gold,
that women's loving hands
covered in flowers.
It stopped in the middle of the village
The night was cold and clear...
Deafening silence,
bowed heads,
lighted candles,
the nature withholding its breath,
Only the clear voice of the priest chanting
The lighted stars watching from above,
weeping,
the death of our Lord,
Jesus Christ.
