This is sort of a different write for me. While talking to a friend of mine she asked if I would write a poem about a young girl who was pressured into giving up her new baby for adoption. this is what I came up with.
I’m thinking of you little girl
Where ever you may be
It seems like only yesterday
That they took you from me
Your wrinkled face, your tiny nose
Still vivid in my mind
As they took you to someone new
And I was left behind
I wonder what you have become
Now that you are grown
Perhaps you are some young mans wife
With children of your own
Sometimes I wonder if you think
Of all the time we’ve missed
And then sometimes I wonder
If you know that I exist
I wanted so to keep you
But they would not let it be
For in their sight, I did what’s right
It wasn’t up to me
There’s nothing that I wouldn’t give
To have the chance to say
“I love you little girl” on this
Your twenty fifth birthday
Oh Jack! This is so beautiful.....I want to cry!!! You have reached a point of universality....its not just a woman thing....its a human thing.....the joining of parent and child, beyond the dictates of conventional structure...the nuclear family...even when seperated...that bond is still there.....this is so touching....and my heart goes out to the MOM...because she is a MOM, with a capital M, even if its not in practice....its in the HEART! You wrote on this topic so wel......(plus i love the rhyme lol)

O' Jack I think This is superb...tears...I think there are many out there who would love to read this poem!! My sister adopted 2 kids herself and had her own 21 years after she got married!! Hope the person this was meant for will read it today!!
Jack, You done an awesome job on this. Every aspect of the lonliness and longing just sang sadly from this. I felt the pain in this Mom's heart. Lisa

Hit home for me too. I am 27, my baby is 12. She's mine thank God. I do not know what it feels like so, to sit here and say, "I couldn't have done it." would be wrong. Circumstances are different for everyone and times change. Bless her heart for giving life and birthing a family with her act of courage and love. Tender poetry that cries all by itself for the reader. Lovely friend you are to do her justice this way. What a heart you have. My heart goes out to her.
Thank You,
Teresa Emilie

Great write of a very difficult situation. I get frustrated when I hear of women that are young that are pressured into decisions that might be incorrect for them. It is a very personal choice to each woman that must be made just by them. No matter what the outcome, the decision is correct for them when made by their own thoughts and heart. Thank you for the sharing.
Through misty eyes i read it, so beautiful and heartwrenching Jack! If only they could read this before they make the decision. I know it isn't always possible.Extremely well done Jack!
