Transcendental Sonnet #1167:
Note on a Recycled-Paper Napkin Found at the Scene
"All that meat and no potatoes"
So my Grandpa used to say
Do you think anybody knows
What he meant or if someday
The meaning would suddenly come to me
As a rite-of-passage epiphany?
A puppet dancing on a string
Any way the wind blows
Did anything mean anything?
Meat and no potatoes
"A miss is as good as a mile"
So my Grandma used to say
Thought about that for awhile
And then made sure I would not miss today

You gotta' wonder where all those sayings came from and what they really meant. I am still not sure on the meat and potatoes one, but as I ponder it, I get a couple of ideas. The miss is as good as a mile might is much easier to get a grip on, probably an archer's term, I am thinking, since if you don't get a perfect hit on your prey, they will be gone and you will not have a second shot. A fun offering with lots to think about which is always the sign of a great write.
Take care,
Sherry

A good sonnet,my Love
You have to read this one to me the next time we talk on the phone!
(I miss your voice tonight...)
My grandpa used to say "Hate to eat and run" at every meal and "Smile or your face will crack." Who knows what it all really means? But I think you're on the right track. Thanks
Six straight men in the cast plus free Tex-Mex food? My friend Lida Rose sure knew how to persuade me. I signed on the dotted line and dusted off my dance shoes. I knew Bad Business on the Brazos would have them rolling in the aisles and standing up
Take care,
Sherry
