"Somehow something has broken him in two / ...A lame postman who comes with postage due"

Transcendental Sonnet #1204:

Postage Due

The postman is lame

It is hard for him to do his rounds

He is not to blame

That he brings no packages to me

I hear his huffing and puffing sounds

And wonder about his injury

As a postman he is bad

He is not good at what he does

I wonder if he ever was

As a man he is so sad

Somehow something has broken him in two

It will not be long until he must quit

Until then I have gotten used to it

A lame postman who comes with postage due

Wonderful write!...This also reminds me of one of Beatles' song "Mister Postman", but your poem offers more meaning and deeper thoughts. Thank you for sharing!
