A poem from our exploration of the sights in Salem, Oregon.
Bush Park
Natural Preserve encased in the
concrete heart of the city:
woodland trails amid native plants.
Douglas Fir and Red Alder
reign in majesty, while
tiny puffs of feathers
giggle among the upper branches.
A rushing creek wrests its way,
twisting this way, then that,
pinned to the earth by bony claws of
exposed Red Alder roots.
The imagery in this poem is characterized by rugged beauty, Dallas. I can almost feel the heartbeat of the forest and sense the power of the creek that "wrests its way," through the park. Excellent.
