Vanity reigns;
man raises monuments
to celebrate himself, and others.
He envisions himself ruler of all--
so he is.
It's a gift, and not his creation.
Wisdom whispers:
"Are you listening?"
The forces that decay and destroy
quickly reduce his monuments,
even as he fights to preserve them.
Time is power,
and it is on the side of the elements.
Wisdom cries out:
"Are you listening?"
Man takes and rapes;
nature recoils.
Seldom does he think of his charges.
He becomes a dangerous creature,
even unto himself.
A day of reckoning approaches.
Wisdom shouts:
"Are you listening?"

MISSED THIS ONE BEFORE. GLAD I FOUND IT. WONDERFUL POEM!! MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY.
I notice that this was written thirteen years ago, and really things haven't changed, have they... and in many ways, they've become even worse. Excellent work.
Obviously, men are not listening. When money talks, then they'll listen. I like your arrangement of this poem, it has a strong impact and a penetrating message.
Be always safe,
Karen
