The Urban Dictionary describes the term
“American Midol” as follows:

The act of sitting with your wife/girlfriend in front of the hit TV show “American Idol” for an uninterrupted hour of not being bitched at, the cable version of the PMS medication Midol. I confess to being a captive audience, but not necessarily on those terms.

Personally I think we’re down to teenagers Scotty and Lauren
Hey, I said I was captive not oblivious.

Poem Artwork

Jim Beam me up Scotty

Honky Tonk describes your voice

You’re pretty good at other songs

But country is your choice

Your competition Lauren

Can belt out any style

It seems to be that without fail

She makes the audience smile

Only one can win it all

To be the next American Idol

Until the competition is over

I’m taking my American Midol

I'm proud that Scotty is from Wisconsin like I am. And he sure is a fabulous country singer. But, he's a dead ringer for Alfred E Newman, or haven't you noticed? I'm terrible with names but I prefer Haley over Lauren. She really belted out, “The House of New Orleans this week.”

The others are too good to call. I've watched all the seasons, but this one is the best of all. Since I don't have a spouse, no Midol in my family.

Not that I'm ever roped into paying any attention to this show, but I'm assuming that by your reference to "Carrie", you are meaning "Haley" - so very nice use of smoke and mirrors to hide the fact that you too are a secret admirer.

I liked it when the judges were more confrontational and objective. In other words, when Simon left, so did I.
Good poem though, ol' pal.
