The Bug's Prayer

While doing a little research on bug origins, I stumbled across an article written by David Miller way back in 1952. The article entitled, “The Insect People of the Maori” describes the beliefs of the New Zealand tribe with respect to the creation of insects and all other creatures. The story is not unlike other worldwide tribal interpretations of origin which in this case gives bugs almost human qualities. In the Maori legend, “Tutewanawana” is the forebearer of all insects. Tutewanawana himself was the product of “Rangi and Papa” (the Sky Father and Earth Mother)

Tutewanawana which art in sky cocoon

Blessed be thy name

Thy Wingdom come

Thy biological plan be done

In ponds and swamps and trees

Give us this day our daily bug

And forgive us as we consume our mate

Unless our mate first consumes us

And lead us not unto the temptation of the bug zapper

But deliver us from the birds and fly swatters and evil cans of Raid

For thine is the Wingdom

With the sheer power of numbers for the foray

Forever and ever under the sink and into the pantry

Amen

Best laugh I've had in a long time. Reminds me of my days as a cereal killer. Ate quite a few of those little gods before I saw them floating in the milk.

You have such a clever and witty way with words (how's that for alliteration?), Patrick. Thank you for the smiles. Love your bio photo. Love and peace to you,

So glad to see you are posting in the midst of all the work, Patrick!
So, here's the thing, guess I have to admit to being a "Trap 'n Transferrer" so out go the wee ones, out the door, to fulfill their purposes. They are so cute!

Good one Patrick…. That photo certainly makes him look intimidating, but I have a big ol toad that has been staying in the planter just off my front patio. Never wanted to mess with him but he must weigh at least a pound. I believe he'd make short work of this guy, prayer or no prayer. Dick

I like bugs. I love to hear them snap, crackle and pop when I step on them.
