A remnant from my mental scrapheap.

Poem Artwork

When I was very young I had a pair

Of plastic scissors

They were round tipped

Perfectly safe

More a toy than tool

When I grew up a little bit I got a pair

Of metal scissors

They were round tipped

A reasonably safe

Fledgling’s tool

When I grew a little more I got to use a pair

Of metal scissors

That had sharp points

With sharp edges

To cut neatly with a child’s accuracy

My colorful collages of circles and triangles

Squares and hearts

Then I got to help mom with her quilting

A new kind of scissors…pinking shears

With funny serrated teeth

To cut the cloth into coarse edged patches

A colorful collage of circles and triangles

Squares and checkerboarded gingham hearts

I went away to college and found another kind

Medical scissors

Clamps actually, that just looked like scissors

They were functionally the best roach clip ever created

A multi-purpose tool

That helps mend both bodily ailments and bad attitudes

This just proves doctors are smart people

Eventually I traded up to more manly scissors

Aviation snips, combination shears that

Right cut, left cut, or straight cut

To tailor sheet metal and mesh and wire

Into a functional collage of ducts and boxes

And sturdy garden’s guardians

Now I just cut coupons on Sundays

Scissors with titanium edged blades

To cleanly and concisely retrieve them

From the center of the newspaper

To create a valuable collage of $crip

That awes my local grocery checker each week

A tool for someone with toys in the attic

CUZ PAT ... WELL DONE!

UNUSUAL TOPIC, CREATIVELY WOVEN INTO A FACTUAL FABRIC,
NOT UNLIKE A TAPESTRY ... I'M TOO 'DUMB' TO CLIP COUPONS,
EVERY MONTH, RECEIVE A 'VALUE PACK' IN MAIL, ONLY SELECT A COUPLE,
LAST NIGHT USED ONE TO SAVE $15. . A LOCAL RESTAURANT ...

SO, GUESS THERE'S HOPE FOR ME YET ... TK...

A hilarious documentary ending in one of my all-time least favorite activities, coupon clipping! It's wonderful you have the patience for it, and the frugal instincts.

Scissor magic for the coupon holder.. Fun for browsing the attic..
Use my scissors in the garden, no wonder they fall apart quickly.

Wow, you're older than I thought you were, Cuz. Already in the Coupon Club??!! Scissor On!

PS: Matlack's lying again; I used to tell him to run with Grandma's old hatchet in his hand, not her scissors!

Good stuff, my friend. I'm always looking forward to the next Patrick poem. Some days there isn't one and I'm disappointed, but when the next one shows up, I content myself with the thought that it was worth the wait. This one most certainly fits into that category.

Thanks Dick

You have run the gauntlet of scissors to shame the patent office! I used mine to stir paint like my shop teacher taught me. ;-)

Very funny my desert dwelling friend.... I especially remember the
"the best roach clip ever created" ah-well, those were the days. So now we're both clipping coupons, huh?

Got a kick out of the stages represented by the quality and dull of pointed scissors. As with life your scissors matured with age.
