I saw it on the box today

Another young man died today.

He did not know the price he’d pay

For being under political sway.

I saw it on the box today

A mother and child were blown away

While in the street their bodies lay

Tanks and troops passed their way.

I saw it on the box tonight,

Our leaders saying everything’s alright.

For peace and freedom young men fight

But who’s to know what’s wrong or right.

I saw it on the box today,

A soldier’s coming home tonight.

Homeward, a long sealed box is on its way.

That box is draped with the stars and stripes.

I saw it on the box today

The husband and father wept in the sand.

His wife and son sent on their way

To Paradise in a better land.
