I remember the past, seems like eons in time. When trips to the candy store, bought rewards for a dime.
A horse and buggy were not that far-fetched, one could view a parade from an old green park bench.
Some folks may not care for the old Model T for your buck in those days it was the coupe made for me.
Today's not by choice as one would expect. A statue of me they'll never erect.
As sure as I write these verses of wit on a statue of me all the pigeons would sit. They'de coo and do what all birdies do Til the bronze of my stature aged and turned blue.
Ah, yes, Paul! As for me, I dream of flappers and speakeasys in the days of Prohibition. And for years I took in the Saturday afternoon movie matinee for 12 cents.
One of my favorite verses is Joyce Kilmer's
"Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree."
Now, I can add: "As sure as I write these verses of wit
on a statue of me all the pigeons would sit."
R-E-S-P-E-C-T. We can sing about it, but it takes a Pulitzer to put any of it in your pocketbook.
This is a sure hit, Paul. I'll get the "Details at eleven."
Well 5 and dimes yes, but the horse and buggy, well that's a bit pre-me...but the sentiment in your poem does take me back to a little neighborhood drugstore I could ride my bike too. The Model T might translate into my Dad's Chrysler convertable(first I can remember), but a park bench remains the same. Oh nostalgia only to be interrupted by the comic relief in statue form...one for the birds. And they call that...oxidation? A wonderful memory trip, my friend, with a touch of a punch!

I love the humor of this one bit back from my age but I remember parades on benches and cherry colas at the 5 and dimes. I got twpo years on those stools and then they were obselete. Darnit I loved this poem the ending OH OH. :)

A humorous look at the world and life through my eyes.
Follow the author and his wife, as they travel the world …. several times over.
Laugh at their funny stories, self-inflicted crazy events, strange observations, wacky zoo facts and snippets
A naïve councilman and a down-on-her-luck single mom try to save their county’s last stand of forest from greedy developers and a dysfunctional government.
Your playful side has peeked out for this piece. Love the humor here, along with the glimpse into the past. Hugs:)
