In the mirror, which does not lie
I see myself and then I sigh,
For in my mind the years aren’t there,
Yet in the mirror there’s gray hair.
My slender curves have added pounds
My angles turned to padded rounds.
My eyes are tired, or bored, or worried
What once was leisurely now is hurried.
I look into the eyes and see
The reality of the woman who’s me.
She longs to see the wrinkles fade
And feels a fool for the bed she’s made.
The road she chose was full of holes
She had to fill dishonest roles.
It all is there in the mirrored face
Who is that woman? What is this place?

OK...I'll admit it...I'm finally looking into the mirror and seeing what's REALLY there. In my head I'm still 18 but the years are catching up to me - and I'm not too crazy about that - but as long as I "live in my head" and not in the mirror I'm just fine and dandy! I have a page of poetry on my personal website if anyone's interested...
