Wolf Wind Winter

It has been a hard winter -- a Wolf Wind Winter --to be sure. This poem "Old Thom", and "Snow Snakes" are all inspired by the Wolf.

The wolf wind stalked
through the yard
last night
pawing at the windows.
jangling the locks, and
rattling the catches.
You never actually see the Wolf
he is just too quick,
but out of the corner of my eye
I could see where
the wolf went
a shadow dashing
under the yard furniture
ruffling the storm covers there
with his shadow tail
.
It’s been a cruel hard winter:
a parade of storms,
blizzard armies
marching across the continent
laying siege as they come
 to grind down the weak,
the ill prepared, and
the faint of heart.
Driving those ,
who have no ground in this deep soil,
towards madness and cabin fever
induced flight to the southern asylum where
the collective phantacy insolates them
 from the reality of cold.

Let them seek
the illusion of warmth
in the shallow sand
living the lie of existence unchallenged.
Not for me this denial of my heritage,
this abdication
of all that nurture and nature have made me
I like to frolic with the wolf
 rejoicing in my long association
with this ancient soil.
Craving the splash of cold
that validates my connection with
 the snow.

I relate well to this! The imagery and the sentiments are grand - such a Native American 'feel' to your philosophy. Wonderful!

Striking, the call of the wild is always in the heart of the wolf and all he stands for...
