Poem Artwork

This little bird returned today
this time with a different song,
One of concern and protection
for his family, in the tree, on the lawn.
He flew around in circles
twittering at the tree,
and every time I moved inside
he'd turn to look at me.
He stayed and spent the afternoon
flying back, then flying away...
I guess he was hunting and sharing his worms
with his little ones, it's spring, hungry babes.
Right then, as I was standing there
and watching the goings on,
Mama flew in and looked at me
singing the same newborn song.
From the tips of his lovely beige feathers,
to every feather on his little red head...
He sings no more to the whipppoorwill,
but chirps and twitters to his family instead.

Deborah,
Excellent follow-up. Isn't that just like the papa bird. Always has something to say. Must keep the little one on track.(lol)
