Soldiers die in foreign lands, the men who put their lives on the line in any war, while quite a few sleep warm and safe. This isn't about the Iraq war, it's about others who will die wearing the uniform of their country. Including policemen, firemen and others in this category. Quite a few soldiers were killed in Iraq today. I also saw a soldier on the news who lost his foot, got fitted with another one and returned to fight again. I think after losing the first foot, it would have been over for me. I figure we have to honor men and women with such conviction. Salute!
While we sleep safe and warm, policemen, soldiers, and firemen are in harm. Sure they may have made this choice, where would we be without their chosen course? Someone has to make the sacrifice, doing jobs dangerous and not so nice.
Maybe some won't dare, but for those who do we should care. Out on the front line of danger, there you will find a stranger. One who is unknown in name, but we should care just the same.
As I sat and watch these brave ones die, it almost brings a tear to my eye, sometimes I just wonder why! At least it's worth wondering why, as we lie in comfort they die.
Nice job, Grady. I often stop to think how grateful I am that there are brave men and women out there every day ready to respond to the needs of the community, but have seldom done anything to let them know I think about them. This is a good reminder that a letter every couple of years just might not be enough. Thanks.
Beautiful salute to the TRUE heroes: our soldiers, our police, firefighters, and paramedics who put their lives on the line each and every day (and not just during war time!)!

Is there a gene planted within one at birth that gives them the driving force it takes to become a sacrificing soldier? Is it something that was instilled in them, throughout life? One may never be able to answer such questions, but where ever it stems from...we should all be grateful and thankful it's there, for they are the reason why we get to sleep and rest in our beds each night.
