The horror began with summer quietude--a tranquil mood
Of dreams drifting and schemes shifting.
Then Mer beauty, heavenly, southernly, came. Illusions of her--
Trust me--dared even beckon an incubus
Who dared to climb aboard and spin rhymes supreme.
Her quest, in eventide, is to imbibe passion that won’t subside.
Hear my threnody, a sequel to her memory
That intrudes, yet eludes, portions of recall evermore.
Mythical sylvan bands dance and prance in endless dreams.
I seek solace by abstaining from wisps of remaining sanity
In waking hours; reason flies and rage compassionately abates.
Summer quietude has revealed a weald in my mind
That’s not inclined to reverse in time.
(The veritable truth is it’s not reversible.)
So begins the dissolution of mind; a convolution
That surrenders all sanity; she, madness, is the contender.
