I remember
Daddy kissed me good-bye
And his plane flew
The heavenly blue sky
He always left
Mommy, John-John and me
But she went too
They wouldn't stay, I knew
For next Monday
Was John-John's third birthday
Mom came alone
Her pink suit was spattered
Where was my dad?
Mom said, "God called him home."
"Where is God's phone?"
Then Momma cried
I didn't understand.
Mom said, "Be brave."
Inside the rotunda
We walked and kneeled
Dad wasn't there either
Yet people cried.
I'll be six on Wednesday
Hope Daddy's home.
When they had a parade
John saluted
I didn't see Daddy.
And I miss him.
I want Daddy to know
Don't stay busy;
Come play with us again!
