I Know, Son, I Know

Insight, hindsight, being there--the gift of a Cherokee Grandmother who was a Medicine Woman. From my folder of 'Snips and Pieces' concerning locks of hair that I have of my loved ones.
______________________________________

Intertwining locks, my son's curly, blond hair.
I've pieces of you inside ... everywhere--
haunting, then comforting me--
you were only twenty-three.

Kerpop!

Your groceries, gym bag fall, drop,
part of your belly hangs, glops-
on your back the skin rips, pops,

shot out.

Before you can even fall
another bullet bursts--hauls;
your lips cannot open, call.

Kerpop!

Number three you fall on knees,
hands clasped front and back, you squeeze;
he paused not--you didn't plea.

The axe--

strike one--head splitting, no ache;
'twas instant death, no mistake.
Thirteen blows, more pieces, I ache

and drop

your sweet baby locks of light, curly blond hair.

Review #1: A haunting piece that drowns the soul in a memoribilia that isn't exactly a place we all want to visit, but sometimes we must. Excellent work, Sandy!
