daydreaming at the beach

concealed
under a large blue hat,
a silhouette
against the afternoon sun,
he stands tall
on a wood piling
slapped by the surf,
balancing precariously
on his left leg,
his arms extended to the side,
flailing like the wings
of a newborn gull,
as he takes off,
circles the old boathouse,
skims across the sea,
and sails above the clouds,
reaching for the sun,
grabbing a handful of sky,
singing to the gods.

Evocative poetry - captures a moment and lets it flow into the poem by way of disarming capitals! I love the line 'Grabbinga handful of sky'.

What a day at the beach. It's the experience that is carefully expressed and coveyed, that gives one the vicarious experience of being at the beach that makes this great poetry.
