For D.

Fantasy delight upon a hemstitched imported cloth
of cinnamon linen, four elegant china plates edged
in gold, the pink across from pale blue, placed to the
left of the lemon, opposite the mint green, the center
piece a single lilac standing tall in the berylline vase
dressed in white lace, tapered lavender candles
accenting the linen napkins, blue with the pink china,
the mint green with the lemon.
                                           The hostess beguiling
in red silk gown, bountiful cleavage itself a banquet,
red satin shoes, a rose in her chestnut hair, on the
ring finger of her right hand a sapphire set in blue
diamonds repeated in her earrings.
                                                  Auriferous dragon
spitting flames on the ivory wall and nearby two
purple peacock chairs, stretched out in one a lanky
sun reddened man wearing blue jeans, white dinner
jacket, black tie, black loafers, leather tassels, no
socks, a snifter of brandy resting on his thigh, his
halting drawl reading aloud a William Carlos Williams
poem about gay wallpaper of cerulean shapes and
leaves of gold ruled in silver.
                                        The feast served, two
plates empty, she seated at the pink, he at the lemon,
the crystal clink a chilled pouilly-fuisse, soft moonlight
sonata, eyes meet and knees touch, untouch, touch.

 Reviews of "Feast of Color"

Gene: well done. I like the phallic imagery in the first part and then contrasting with the "feminine" reds in the next part. Your use of color is good, and I like that sounds are included. I like the verisimilitude, all the details of their apparel; you set quite a vivid scene here. I think the implied attraction between the pair is great and i like the understated ending, and the use of repetition there; it also shows, of course, what "dessert" will consist of! I like the use of unusual words for color: not white, but ivory; lemon, etc. For some reason I also like the the part about the rings' being repeated in her earrings - I also like your use of alliteration; I am an alliteration nut. I think it somewhat unusual for a man to describe such a scene in such detail (I don't know why). Anyway, the poem has a good tone; one can "feel" the setting; and I think what you have here is actually a painting. Thank you, G.

o oo .. .[perhaps its just my mindset, but] there seems to be a colourful rush of passion simmering, just underneath all this beautiful finery, all this elegance... ..underneath is something that onyl precious few get to lay eyes on; much mroe beautiful than the 'setting' [per se]-- -- after all, what are peacocks and their feathers for? all the best courtesans have a peacock.. .
this was laid out [wow---no pun intended] quite vividly and precisely, everything in its place, but that passion.......touch. untouch. .. .. .
