From my poem Olfactory Organ Recital.

On Jupiter's day,
the day before I disappear
into the cracks of Odin's riddle,
I hitchhike
on a passing comet
for one more tour
of the old neighborhood.

On the way to
Uranus
I grab a ring off
Saturn,
choke up when I see
Venus
clamp a mourning band around
her missing arm.

Gliding
close to Mars
I see
waves of dancing light
where phantom rivers were.
I hear
throbs and spits
and coos and pings
that shake my hollow frame
with wonder.

I see sparks fly.

I sense blips
of quantum energy
in the vaulting act of autogenesis:
creating something out of nothing
in the universal scheme
of give
and take,
dazzling sights
and celebrant sounds
that blow my mind away,
begging
unthinkable answers
to questions
no one taught me how to ask.

An organ sting startles me.

My orphan annie eyes
watch a dogged out vapor trail
curl languidly
around an asteroid,
chase its nose
into the sun's corona.

The crash I hear,
as I wash out on the tide
of timeless time,
is neither Alpha's
bang
nor the whimper
of Omega,
nor in fact a crash at all,
but a kind of breathless hwoo.

Call it
a cosmic sigh.

the oomph of omniscience. . .

how you weave these heavenly bodies...in and out...voer and over. . .
such a big bang indeed.

I adore this poem! Yes, all the unthinkable answers to the many many questions we have about being the lucky person to fly amongst the stars and visit the galaxies. I know that I would love to travel to the stars. I often look up and wonder. Nice write! Keep up the great work!!

This is just grand, old boy! Insomniac me stayed up way-way too late last night, and listened to that sci-fi radio station--know the one? Anyhow, this scientist was talking of cosmic sounds, and how they align water so simultaneously, upon hearing sun sounds, for example, the water, under a microscope, moves with the sound waves, and becomes very beautiful. I think the sounds of your poem aligned my inner water (that's what? about 75% of me?) My innards are glowing. --Charlie

Cosmic sighs, Cosmic thoughts, fantasy, facts. Isn't that what Broadway is all about?
Great piece, Gene, a masterpiece by the master.

I'm here shaking my head in awe. And these lines, "begging
unthinkable answer to questions no one taught me how to ask,"...incredilble...not just the thought...but the way it's presented. How do you do it?

Gene, and with a sigh my reading ended, ending too soon, but that's a purely selfish view, I didn't want the tour to end at all. So much here that is rich and highly imaginative, the Venus De Milo image a true poetic conceit, and "answers to questions no one taught me how to ask" is a challenege to all of us and our system of knowledge and understanding. Gorgeous writing!

My affinity lies here - wrapped up in exactly these kind of musings. I must wonder whether you have "remote-viewed" my mind and there has been some kind of karmic fusion between yours and mine and you have tied it all up in a beautiful Gene bow...loved it.

By the title I thought you were going to burst into song, that would have been nice Gene but what you did was so much more you explained a Phenomenon to me I have never experience and for that you've touched my heart. Thankyou. Love, Bonnie
