I’m the sunset in September,
You’re the dawn, the first of May.
You’re the Present, I’m the Past,
But when you look at me that way,
I never dwell upon the past,
Empty years I can’t remember.
I’ve been around the world awhile,
I rarely kid about my age,
But when you look at me and smile,
I swear I’m just a juvenile.
Old lovers never seem to age.
I know that I should listen when
They say I’m nearly twice your age,
But then you look at me and then
I know I’m young again.
Old lovers never seem to age.
When cupid aims his deadly dart
I feel a burning in my heart.
Take heed of this old valentine,
Old lovers unlike rare old wine,
Just never seem to age, Sweetheart,
Old lovers never seem to age.
I'm 47 and currently bask in the love of a younger women like a happy lizard on a rock.
I've only woken up from a long Scottish sleep, from an Ingmar Bergman darktime. Let me enjoy my old age! :-)

way others look at us can influence too; and sometimes they're projecting their own insecurity.
There's the subject and there's the tender voice throughout the poem...

I like this mellow side of you, romantic and tender and optimistic, and the lyrics of Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered...a...child again...resonate; your song, too, is ageless, eternal as love is, and why do the begrudgers always have to mention the generation gap? Not as lucky, jealous and envious. This is fine, very fine.

It is true that age does make us appreciate love more.Wonderful poem

This is absolutely beautiful: when the man sees his lady, love is ageless. Well done.

This is very, very good, Gene, and I know exactly how this old guy feels or felt. Your poetry button works well, today, and I'm glad. - Bill

Thanks for that poem. Reminds me too fo a fellow, 25 yrs. my senior whom I loved and adored. Age didn't matter to me. He said he felt young and he looked young too.
