Leaning to shore
a distant sail.
sundown.

We are the distant sail.

Riding moon ripples
we skim the silent surf,
greeted by the rare perfumes and hues
of our secluded isle, a speck
on the globe.

Fixed on a single star,
we feel the earth move.
White sand fills the hollows
of our backs.

In the gathering of clouds
our star disappears, dune grass
speaks to us in whispers.

Somewhere the hummmm of a muted horn.

From whitecaps a seductive wind
is warmed by your laugh.
We taste the sea on your lips.

Locked in this perfect night,
we are rapt in the poetry, the rhythm,
the swell and wane of love.

The night is realized,
our star reappears.

At daybreak, a gull’s cry:
the sea calls.

This is my favorite part of the poem:
Riding moon ripples
we skim the silent surf,
greeted by the rare perfumes and hues
of our secluded isle, a speck
on the globe.

This section of the poem means alot to me, as it reminds me of journeys that we take in life. "We skim the silent surf" creates an image of peacefulness in my mind. To me the words "we are greeted by rare perfumes and hues of our secluded isle" represents the beautiful things that we find in life's journey, as we discover so many beautiful things. I think that the sea is the place which brings you the most joy. I love the way you put all of your words and emotions together in this poem.

how come everything you write of the sea swells erotic? every timber is crescendo perfect, arching and worldly and warm salty summer stuff. . .. . how do you do that? i envy the ability ot meld nature as lover and lover as so natural its just breathing itself. . ..
goodness the ins and outs of these lines. . ..

Somewhere the hummmm of a muted horn.
From whitecaps a seductive wind
is warmed by your laugh.
We taste the sea on your lips.

Locked in this perfect night,
we are rapt in the poetry, the rhythm,
the swell and wane of love.

The night is realized,
our star reappears.

At daybreak, a gull’s cry:

i wont even go into all the voodoo doll things my mind echoes back and craetes like castles in the sand.dunes. . .. . hoping some prince will stumble upon foreign shores to claim the throne. . . but good Lord.. you made me ramble...
ramble on.
how come everything you write of the sea swells erotic?
how?

Gene,
As elemental as a Robert Lowell or Wallace Stevens work, there is beauty, love and loneliness here, the isolation of our planet, up to now the only one we know of inhabited with intelligent life or what passes for it, I see this beyond the immediate environs of land, sky and sea, a reach for universal meaning and connection.

Ah, the sea, speaks thunderously to our bones of the rhythm of life and we sway, and drink deeply of its consuming truth. We know we are alive when we are at the sea. Thank you for this beautiful poem. Blessings and hugs, J'nia

You have created a beautiful, seductive atmosphere with your carefully chosen words. I especially like that in "We taste the sea on your lips", you chose the word "your" rather than "our."
