A true experience in my young life and later foretold by a shaman to seek the white owl, he will come as a symbol, a picture or the actual bird...

Poem Artwork

 The Snow Owl

Lying atop her bedsheets
not more than just a waif
scratching on the rooftop
caused her head to raise

Crawling out so slowly
diverted by the sounds
she followed papa outside
to see what he had found

Upon nights darkened rooftop
New moon up in the sky
The beauty of the snow owl
sitting tall afore her eyes

She was merely seven
a child of love indeed
for every creature found her
of every kind and creed

But this time t'was different
Profound it was for sure
for nary did they come here
and nary to the moor

He stared into her young eyes
afore he took to flight
his great wings oh so spansive
gliding out into the night

In memory she did keep it
filed great owl's look to her
and grew into a lady
his memory just a blur

Until a shaman told her
please look for him again
he will come to show you
a symbol from the glen

Smiling she did wonder
be it fable or the truth
Until one day the snow owl
her heart he came to soothe

Such a meaningful sharing, Carol. This winter, there are many snowy owls around here because their food supply up north is depleted. They are weak and weary and many are brought into shelters. I hope this has nothing to do with "global warming" but I worry about these beautiful creatures and all that they represent. Thank you for sharing your gift. Love and best wishes,

Regis

Wow! to have seen such a magnificent creature at such a tender age!

Back in 1983, we drove from Texas to Wisconsin. When night came in Arkansas we couldn't find a room in a motel, so I continued to drive on until dawn in Illinois. My continuing on, we arrived at Madison about 6 PM to pick up a college student stepson where I took a shower to shake off the fatigue so that we could continue on. We took a major highway to the Northwoods where my parents had a cottage, our destination. I had to drive a forest road for about 50 miles before we got there. On the way about 10:30 PM, I suddenly saw a white ghost in the road. As I approached at about 60 mph, the ghost took wing and flew up out of harms way. That snowy owl woke me up for the last few miles and we arrived safe and sound at 11 PM.

Twice brought to you as an omen until he came to you to soothe your heart.
May the white owl forever be with you, may he carry you on the mighty wings of his love and may he forever soothe your heart.

A wonderful story Carol

Lovely! My own totem is the great gray owl, but since they aren't found this far south I've adopted their southern brethren for inspiration. Perhaps one day I'll take a page from your book and write of my own experience with the great gray owls of my past.

A magical tale told in your superb and dramatic way, Carol. Would that I had seen the snow owl in my youth. There is something magnificent and holy about that bird. I like to think, if I had been privileged to gaze upon such a creature my future might have been altered in some infinite, wondrous way.
