A Time For Separation

It’s snowing again.
I still love you,
But I wish you’d leave.
In fact, you must.
You see, I’m ready to renew
An old acquaintance of mine—
One who’s warmer, more vibrant,
And wears that familiar cloth of green.
She makes me feel
A whole lot better than you.
So, I want you out.
And the sooner the better.
You won’t let me do anything—
Just keep me tied down
And close by your side, always.
Further, your words and looks are icy,
And when I’m in your presence,
You forever turn a cold shoulder.
I’ve tried for months
To get used to your cold passion,
But how does one become accustomed
To kissing lips that are frozen shut.
Oh, I’m sure that
I’ll eventually want you back,
Especially after a series of
Heated arguments that are bound to come
Throughout the fiery months ahead.
But for the time being,
I want you out of my sight.
No, it isn’t that I want to hurt you.
We simply need some time apart.
You yourself know that
We have this problem once a year.
Yes, I know I’ve said some hurtful things,
But hopefully our time apart
Will diminish the upsetting remarks
I have made on this day,
Healing the wounds between us.
So, out with you.
Be gone.
In no time at all
You’ll be scratching at my
Windows and doors, begging entrance.
It’s then that I’ll open up,
Welcoming you home once more and
Finding pleasure in your wintry lips
But for a while.
