Dark forces have created a disease
That even blocks an angel’s heart from reason.
Unnoticed flying freely through the breeze
We’re innocent participants of treason.
There are some heroes fighting what is done
As this disease keeps spreading more and more
With government enforcing how it’s run
A plague is spread about from shore to shore.
Can we allow without the slightest pause
The good of man to be so contradicted?
Can we believe it justified because
There are some folks who will not be afflicted?
Can it be worth the horrors and the fears?
The draining sore of human lives laid waste?
Can it be worth one battered daughter’s tears?
To keep a germ because you like it’s taste?
We really know down deep inside what’s right.
True angels know when blood is on our hands.
So thanks, but I’ll just have a diet Sprite-
And hope the one who joins me understands.

My dear friend, I've seen alcoholism destroy too many families. It's a horrible disease. One thing I have learned. The alcoholic has to be the one to WANT to quit....it's their decision. No matter how badly we want it for them, the choice is theirs. God bless, sweet friend.
it isn't always even the taste, when i first started drinking, i hated the taste of most alcohol but i learned too well to handle the taste...alcoholism is a terrible disease but it can be beat...i'm proof
YOu are so right with this one, I think there are very few among us who have not experienced the horror of this disease first hand or through someone we care about. Great write on a frightening subject.
i don't drink, but i can understand the pain of alcoholism. my sister used to drink like a fish, but thank GOD she came to her senses; she's been sober over 20 years now! i am so proud of her! well done, john!
I'll join you for a Diet Coke (that's my addiction). :) I can relate--alcohol is an insidious addiction. I gave it up 23 years ago. :) Don't desire it at all any more...now if I could give up these damn smokes....
