Sled Dogs Way

Snowy crystals forming on the ice,

enchanted land of the midnight sun,

glistening in the bright sunny light,

Sled dogs howl, always on the run.

In wait, two by two standing in line,

running, always showing their might,

together as one in harmonious time,

watching them pull is quite a sight.

A bark, a howl, for it’s their song,

booties upon their feet, ready to go,

excitement in the air, a constant long,

pulling the sled with a smooth flow.

Sitting upon the sled is such a rush,

the howling excitement fills the air,

you can hear the snow beneath crush,

once in a lifetime experience to share.

Risking the elements every single day,

sled dogs answering the call of the wild,

the natural driving passion of their way,

yet filled with the playfulness of a child.

What a great experience-I love watching them do their jobs and the joy they seem to have for what they do

You have given a fine account of such an experience. I do remember being dragged in a sled by our dog when I was a child in northern Alberta. Not quite what you've described but nontheless, a microcosm of the experience. I also appreciate your attention to structure in this poem. Thanks for sharing, Sam. Best wishes,

Regis

Sam, I could feel the cold nipping at my nose and see the dogs trotting in unison with the snow crunching under the sled...I love the images, sounds and the trip.
